The Property

This charming farmhouse sits on a hilltop above Greve in Chianti, at the head of a tranquil and completely unspoilt side valley. It is reached by a winding strada bianca, which leads up through the chestnut forest, past a tiny hamlet, to the house above. The position is enviable, and the property has some of the finest views in Chianti, with the owner’s vineyards stretched out below and the tops of the green, wooded hills behind. With no major highways in the vicinity, the only sound to disturb the peace is the birdsong. A pleasant garden with olive and fruit trees and well-manicured lawns surrounds the typical Tuscan farmhouse building, which due to its position on a hill, is built on several levels in a charming 'higgledy-piggledy' style. To the rear is a delightful loggia which provides welcome shade and a lovely area to sit in the warm Tuscan evenings. There is also an excellent swimming pool offering endless views of the surrounding countryside. Behind the property, beyond the tennis court is nothing but wooded hills, with meandering trails waiting to be discovered on foot.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground floor: original Tuscan terracotta tiled floors throughout the property - enter into oak-beamed living room with enormous open fireplace in Tuscan stone and splendid views down the valley; arch through to second living area; charming kitchen with pale blue beams, open fireplace, seating for 8 people and an antique dresser.

Mezzanine: large dining room with oak table seating 10/12 people and master bedroom (King) with delightful pale blue, en-suite bathroom having double sink and bathtub.

First Floor: corridor to double bedroom (King) with en-suite shower room; further double bedroom (King); charming single bedroom (perfect for a child) with additional roll-away bed and further bathroom with shower; beautiful, panoramic views from all bedroom windows.

Activities in the area:
Discover the charms of Italy’s most picturesque region, with medieval hilltop villages to be explored, and ancient castles to be visited. Greve itself is an important Chianti village with many wine shops and delicatessens including the famous Salumeria Falorni with its excellent cold cuts and fresh meat, which the local residents travel from miles around to purchase. It has a beautiful main square, surrounded by porticoes under whose shade small cafes and restaurants place their tables. On a Saturday the square is taken over by a large local market. If you book your villa in September you can enjoy Greve’s wine festival with local producers showcasing their Chianti Classico D.O.C.G

For the food lovers, local farms selling delicious cheese and some of Tuscany’s best wine are on your doorstep, and there are open-air markets in one village or another almost every day of the week. A visit to one of the famous vineyards in the vicinity (such as Brolio, Fonterutoli, Castello da Verrazzano etc) gives a unique opportunity to view the wine making process from beginning to end… and purchase a few bottles for the evening dinner!

The famous art cities of Florence and Siena are a mere 30 minute drive away, and offer unparalleled sightseeing opportunities. See Michelangelo’s David in Florence’s Accademia art gallery, enjoy a visit to the world famous Uffizi Museum and a stroll through the Piazza Signoria with its impressive medieval buildings. Visit Siena’s fine Gothic cathedral with its Piccolomini library and admire Duccio’s masterpiece The Virgin in Majesty, then enjoy a coffee in the Piazza del Campo where the thrilling Palio horse race is held twice a year. The picturesque, hilltop town of San Gimignano is also just 40 minutes away, with its narrow streets and magnificent medieval towers, built by the noble families of the day as a symbol of their wealth and power.

For the more active there is excellent walking from the door of your villa. Horse back riding, mountain biking, hot air ballooning and treatments in a wine-therapy spa can also be organised. The best golf course in Florence is within a 15 km drive from the house.

Last but not least, there is the shopping! The outlet stores near Arezzo provide endless retail therapy opportunities, and then there are the leather goods and hand made paper that Florence is so famous for and the wonderful olive oil that is produced throughout the region – make sure you choose the greenest you can find!
